Prerequisites

An ‘A’ Grade in Mathematics ATAR Ready S1 and maintain S2.

Must also select Methods.

Achieved OLNA.

Any student who underperforms in this course in Year 11 will be required to meet with the Head of Learning Area to discuss their continued enrolment in Year 12.

Aim of Course

Mathematics Specialist is an ATAR course which must be selected in conjunction with the Mathematics Methods ATAR course. The Specialist course provides opportunities beyond those presented in the Methods course and include the development of rigorous mathematical arguments and proofs; and the use of mathematical models more extensively.

The course includes topics in functions and calculus that build on and deepen the ideas presented in Methods course. The Specialist course extends understanding of statistics and introduces the topics o vectors, complex numbers and matrices.

You should select this course because:

  • You want to use Mathematics Specialist ATAR as a University entrance course

  • Mathematics Specialist ATAR is a prerequisite for a course you wish to study at university

  • If you have a strong interest in Mathematics, including those intending to study mathematics, statistics, all sciences and associated fields, economics or engineering at university.
