Student has not met the numeracy requirement for OLNA.

Aim of Course

Mathematics Foundation is a General course which focuses on building the capacity, confidence and disposition to use mathematics to meet the numeracy standard for the WACE. This course is for students who have not demonstrated the numeracy standard in the OLNA. It provides students with the knowledge, skills and understanding to solve problems across a range of contexts including personal, community and workplace/employment. This course provides the opportunity for students to prepare for post-school options of employment and further training.

Description of Course

Year 11

  • Unit 1: Whole Numbers and Money

  • Unit 2: Whole Numbers, Money, Fractions and Decimals

Year 12

  • Unit 3: Whole Numbers, Money, Percentages, Fractions, Decimals, Location, Time, Temperature and Shape

Assessment

To provide for different learning styles a variety of assessment tasks are used. For each unit tasks will include:

  • Response (tests and quizzes)

  • Practical Applications

  • Externally set task
