AIM OF THE COURSE
This course provides opportunities for students to develop knowledge, understanding and skills related to children, families and communities. Students explore roles and relationships within families and communities, and examine factors that influence human development and wellbeing. This course may enhance employability and career opportunities in areas such as community services, education, childcare, health, nursing and social work.
COURSE DESCRIPTION
Students develop an understanding of the diverse nature of children, families and communities. They investigate developmental stages across the lifespan and examine factors that influence growth and wellbeing. Emphasis is placed on building practical skills to support children’s development and to promote positive relationships within families and communities.
Students explore effective communication, decision-making and problem-solving strategies, and consider the impact of cultural, social and environmental factors on individuals and groups. Practical experiences provide opportunities to apply knowledge and skills in real-life contexts, including working with children and supporting family and community wellbeing.
Safety considerations, ethical practices and responsibilities when working with children and vulnerable groups are also examined.
