This is a project-based elective designed for Year 10 students wishing to study Physical Sciences (Chemistry and/or Physics), Mathematics at an ATAR level in Years 11 and 12 and have an interest in the application of Digital Technology and engineering. The course is designed to deepen these interests and understanding of scientific and mathematical concepts in a fun and practical way.

The focus of STEM - Accelerated will be on experimental techniques, use of technology and application of Science, Mathematics in the real world. Students will be encouraged to work with their peers and collaborate with experts in the community to design projects, solve problems and expand their thinking beyond the classroom. There will be opportunities to explore cutting edge scientific techniques, and the integration of technologies such as coding will help to prepare students for life after high school. Relevant excursions and incursions will be undertaken to help bring our learning to life.

A new theme will be explored each term, culminating in a presentation of the group projects. This subject has the flexibility to accommodate for student driven projects and students will be encouraged to put forward ideas for Semester two themes. STEM – Accelerated will provide an outstanding foundation for studying ATAR Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. We encourage anyone thinking of undertaking these courses in Years 11 and 12 to choose this elective.

Please be aware of the minimum requirements for selection into the course: Students must be enrolled in Introduction to Physical Sciences and Introduction to Mathematics Methods or Specialist in Year 10.
