Head of Faculty: Miss Evanna Brando
The Humanities and Social Sciences Faculty at Seton Catholic College aims to develop students who are ‘global citizens’ – aware of the ever-changing world that they live in. We aim for all our students to cultivate an understanding and awareness of the world around them, and the many varied peoples, stories, cultures and histories that make up our wonderful world.
Through a balanced and considered study of the unique and yet interconnected disciplines that form our learning area (Economics; Geography; History; Civics and Citizenship), we challenge our students to examine how and why individuals and groups live together; how they interact with and within their environment; how they manage their resources; and furthermore create institutions and systems that govern their everyday lives.
Students at Seton Catholic College obtain a further understanding that, over time, these relationships and interactions may change to varying degrees due to the complex and interwoven world in which we live. This knowledge is acquired through the processes of social inquiry, project based learning, environmental appraisal, ethical analysis and by constructively critiquing various perspectives from past and present eras.
Through the study of Humanities and Social Sciences, our students are encouraged to apply the understandings and skills that they learn, into their own lives to develop environmental consciousness, social competence, civic responsibility and stewardship.
