AIM OF THE COURSE

For future study this qualification provides a pathway to a Diploma via a Certificate III and IV in Commercial Cookery. This qualification provides a pathway to work in various hospitality settings, such as restaurants, hotels, catering operations, clubs, pubs, cafes and coffee shops.

 Possible job titles include:

  • bar attendant

  • café attendant

  • catering attendant

  • food and beverage attendant

COURSE DESCRIPTION

This Certificate course is now into its second year and will run under the banner of Notes Café - Seton’s very own student run café. It involves practical catering, food investigations, recipe design and modifications for events, and will give students real hospitality experience in a range of settings. The students will plan and run several hospitality projects from start to finish.

This qualification reflects the role of individuals who use a defined and limited range of hospitality operational skills. They are involved in mainly routine and repetitive tasks using practical skills and basic industry knowledge. They work under direct supervision.

UNITS AND ELECTIVES

In order to be eligible for the award of Certificate II in Hospitality, completion of 14 units of competency is required. These include:

  • 7 core units of study

Work Effectively With Others - Source And Use Information On The Hospitality Industry - Use Hospitality Skills Effectively - Interact With Customers - Participate In Safe Work Practices - Show Social And Cultural Sensitivity - Provide First Aid.

  • 7 elective units

Process Financial Transactions - Prepare And Present Sandwiches - Use Hygienic Practices For Food Safety - Prepare And Present Simple Dishes ­- Clean Kitchen Premises And Equipment - Maintain The Quality Of Perishable Items - Use Food Preparation Equipment.
